We imprint from our Moms. We learn their values and behaviours. So many treasures are passed down to us
What beautiful treasures have you received from your Mom?
I received my mom’s values for exploring her creative side whether in homemaking, journaling, or baking, and later in life she got more involved in the finishing touches of home renovation like painting and tiling. She is a “hmmm, what if…” woman and received that treasure too.
I also have her value for collecting items for reuse and repurposing, seeing beauty and potential where others may not…
THIS can easily be, to my Clutter Liberation detriment!
For example:
Jars… there are a lot of jars that go through my pantry that I have to fight the urge to save from the recycle bin. My bin above the fridge is a testament to that.
Chairs… why do I love chairs? I think because they are functional, easy to paint, and reupholster. I’ve gotten A LOT better, numerous ones have been released from my care since I started my declutter journey. BUT I have not been blinded to them, so a pretty chair always turns my head on FB Marketplace and the curbside. I have just gotten stronger at saying "Nope, not for me today”.
Textiles…sigh, I love fabric, linens, and blankets. Anything feather-filled! And simple classic designs.
I have had to let go of the value of COLLECTING for future potential. I make conscious choices over and over again to not collect. I now use things until they become unusable. It gives me the ability to enjoy shopping for a purchase I actually need. There is a real simple joy in that. Of course, seeing a beautiful sheet go into the garbage hurts. I also have to choose not to save that good portion of fabric because it will not get used in my current lifestyle.
I will keep the value of seeing the beauty and enjoying it but not becoming a collector of that beauty.
SEE BEAUTY, ACKNOWLEDGE BEAUTY, ENJOY BEAUTY, MOVE FORWARD WITHOUT POSSESSING IT ALL.Happy Mother’s Day to you and all the Moms in your life. Receive the good values they have poured into you and let go of the physical treasures not needed on YOUR journey.
