How Many Hair Spray Cans Do You Own?

How big is your collection of perfume, lotion, lip gloss or nail polish?

So I counted this week, and I have 4 cans of hair spray! But oh there are more, 3 containers of Mousse, a gel product, and 2 other underused hair products.

Back when I started my Clutter Liberation journey, one of the first rules I implemented was to not buy anything new unless there was no more at home. Obviously, I fell off the wagon here in the hair product department!

So I am reinstating this rule. I am not a woman who needs 4 cans of hairspray and all the other stuff. Obviously, some products were not working for me and I was looking for the holy grail of sprays for this fine hair I have. I did not deal with the stuff I didn’t like and find it a new home, instead, I left it languishing in my medicine cabinet causing clutter and taking up real estate.

This is how clutter happens:

  • Dissatisfaction with our purchases

  • Romanced by the shiny new packaging and marketing jargon of a similar product

  • Add new purchases, to the shelf beside the others

Here is what needs to be done to remedy this.

  • Deal with what you have already invested in. Choose to use it or let it go. You can let items go by putting them on a FB freecycle site (I can attest that people will take your open product) or by disposing of them. These are your only options. Pick One because being the storage box for them is not a solution, it is delaying the inevitable and maybe making someone else toss them one day. I am using my hair sprays up since they are for zoom calls at this stage of life.

  • Choose to use things up before you repurchase. A sale isn’t really a sale if you tie your resources up in multiple purchases and they sit in your cupboard. Instead, you are now a few $$ poorer and you have created clutter.

Did you know there is GREAT satisfaction in using up a product and just recycling the container? Did you know shopping for and purchasing a product you actually NEED is a joyful experience? You think an impulse purchase is fun? A well-thought-out, needed, purchase is even sweeter! Don’t just take my word for it, try it for yourself 😉

*Tip: Mix all your lotions and liquids in a milk bag or such for disposal and then recycle the containers.
